Howl-O-Ween at The Great Wolf Lodge

We recently took a trip to The Great Wolf Lodge and we had a blast!! This was our first time visiting the Great Wolf Lodge-Williamsburg and let me say, it did not disappoint. The boys, now a little older, were super excited to go back especially for the Howl-O-Ween activities this month.

The Water Park: We arrived early with our swimsuits packed in a separate bag, but to our surprise and pleasure, the room was ready so we checked in and got settled. I think it took the boys a whopping 3 seconds to get into their swimsuits and down to the water park. I’m not sure what they loved the most… the wave pool or the water basketball. We tried everything at least once, including the boogie board (yes, I did this and stayed on!!) and we wrapped up our day with a dip in the hot tub. I think the boys actually liked warming up in there. They looked a little tired after all of that swimming. I’m glad that we decided to go to the water park on a Friday afternoon. It was not overly crowded and certainly manageable compared to Saturdays or Sundays.

The Fireplace Suite: I booked the Fireplace suite since it was only $10 more per night and I can say that it was well worth the money. There were 2 full beds, a pull out sofa sleeper, 2 TV’s, a fireplace, and of course a balcony to enjoy that cool, crisp fall air. I was very impressed by the room but even more impressed by the text from our personal assistant, Malin, who offered to help with any requests that we had. Any I did have one: The Wine Down service for adults. There are 4 options to choose from and we choose the Prosecco and Chocolate Strawberries for delivery at 9:30 to the room. I have to say, it’s nice to bring the kids someplace and still have some adult time, even while sitting out on the balcony enjoying our “treats”.

Trick-or-Treating: Speaking of treats, the boys LOVED trick-or-treating. This activity took place from 5:30-7:30 throughout the hotel. The kids were given a trick-or-treat bag and had to follow a map and trail to each candy, themed station. The final station was the best and an entire bag of gummy bats was handed out! I’m glad we ate dinner first yet that still didn’t stop them from digging into their candy stash and tearing into their haul.

The Arcade and Bowling: With trick or treating completed and the sugar high in full swing, the boys were all about the arcade and bowling. Somehow my son hit the jackpot on tickets and chose even more candy to add to his already-full, candy bag. Still, they had fun in the arcade and even Ken and I managed to play a few rounds of air hockey. Ok, he beat me…(I let him win : ) Bowling was awesome too. The bowling alley is small (only 5 lanes) but the lanes short enough, and with bumpers, so that most kids can bowl a strike, or close there to it. We enjoyed this immensely but yet again, I came in last. Did I mention I’m not a bowler.

The Great Clock Tower Show and Monster Bash Dance Party:  Each night around 8:00 in the lobby The Great Clock Tower Show characters come to life for a Spooktacular show. Kids are encouraged to wear their PJ’s, or their costumes, and may even get to meet Wiley or Violet. To cap the night off, the Monster Bash Dance Party kicks off at 9:00. This is a great way to burn off the sugar high and get them ready for bed.

The Loose Moose: For our meals, we choose to eat in the main restaurant, The Loose Moose,  which offers a buffet for even the pickiest eaters. I must say I was impressed by the oysters on the half shell, salmon, and shrimp selection for dinner. The food was excellent and desserts alone were worth the price for that matter. The service was much appreciated as well. My oldest did not each much of his dinner and the server did not charge for his meal. I did not even ask for this or mention it to her but she noticed anyway, and comped the ticket. Thank you Great Wolf Lodge for that kind of service!

Howl in One Mini Golf: On Sat, we enjoyed  a round of mini-golf and guess what, I won this one hands down! The outdoor pool was closed since the weather was a bit chilly but I did want to mention that, during warmer weather, the outdoor pool is open along with a variety of pool activiites and a snack bar located nearby.

Great Wolf Candy Company and  Buckhorn Exchange Gift Shop: Finally, we could not leave without stopping by the candy shop and gift shop for a few mementos and yes, some more candy (way too much, I know).

The service, food, suite, and activities at the Great Wolf Lodge were wonderful and I highly recommend that you plan a trip there! There are several locations of The Great Wolf Lodge throughout the country. Check the location nearest you for pricing and activity schedule.
